Countdown to over $5000 per month within one month of being on patreon...
But I wonder why only their company is okay with receiving money in this way...

...If you want to raise money to make merch that might not normally be profitable - that's what Kickstarter etc are for. They should know; they've done it before. This just sounds like you're paying a subscription so they can make extra stuff for you to buy on top of the stuff you're already buying.

Because its pretty shameful and seems kind of scammy.

It's not even for funding anime, but livestreams

Crowfunding is more for larger products, ones which would also be sold to the masses. On other hand, Patreon is generally used for smaller things, stuff that is not planned in advance, and general gimmicks that you spend little money on. You can't really use these two as alternatives.

Ummm... Are you aware that the reason why they are doing this is because lots of Western fans have been asking them for years on Twitter, 4chan and Reddit to start a Patreon? Some of us wanted to give them some money and directly support the studio but don't have the money to import the superexpensive Japanese BD and as far as I'm aware studios make little profit from merchandising.

This is not them trying to scam us, this is them finally giving us a way to support them,

They couldn't even do a .png or some other lossless format? What is this, 2002?

$5000/month could help so many animators and also fund some more anime titles, but is mostly wishful thinking.

From reading the patreon, I get the impression that this is more one staff member's pet project that the higher ups gave their blessing to; rather than a planned studio initiative. So it's probably going to be pretty amateurish unless it proves popular enough to merit real time & resources.

I don't mind throwing a little money their way, especially since the money is going directly to the studio and not getting eaten up by other entities.

Madman! Just after finishing FranXX they ask for money, feels like extortion to me.

Getting hi res images or access to psds with all layers would be cool for those interested in production art.

Not bad as a gift for patrons.

Toss in key animation sequence breakdowns of characters/fx in psds and enthusiasts will certainly bite!

I prefer to use Patreon and crowd-funding sites for smaller artists and indie studios, but it's curious to watch the ecosystem grow to include large companies, and, voluntary as it is, I can't really blame them for trying to get in on using it to channel their audiences' support.

I also generally really like Trigger works, with the recent FranXX spectacle a notable aberration, so if other people want to throw money at them to make more cool stuff, I'm happy enough about it.

At $5000 per month, Trigger would only need 400 months (33 Years and 4 months) to fund a 13-episode anime ($2 million).

My biggest beef with their Patreon is that they say "*We will do our best to stream as frequently as possible.", a red flag even with the best people.

Seems like this is all about funding their merchandising and very little will go to their actual work. No thanks.
