What do you mean? The movie always had an animated sequence by them, now it's extended.

Is it finally going to get a home video release? I've put off buying it for decades because all versions except for the original vintage Japanese DVD are censored.

It's not quite as simple as labeling it as "censored". It wasn't, at least not exactly. No, Kill Bill was never "censored", I think people need to be educated again on what the word censorship actually means. Authorial intent is not censorship. Tthe editing that Tarantino wanted for the film was partially only made in agreement with MPAA notes, but he was working with them for the final cut of the film, not being forced into making the changes on their behalf. His final cut was his call, and it's why it contains the stylistic flourishes that he intentionally added, such as the black and white and the shadow-play sequence at the house of blue leaves. It wasn't "censorship" it was a compromise that kept all parties satisfied and allowed Tarantino to settle on the final edited version of the House Of Blue Leaves that he approved of and wanted to be released the way it was.

The Japanese DVD is not "uncensored", therefore, it was, again, Tarantino's INTENTIONAL CHOICE and call as a director in charge of this decision that this was the version of the film he wanted in that region for that time. Mostly due to the edit of that sequence for that DVD was localized for what Japanese audiences would be more receptive to. If there was any censorship going on, it was more of what some people call "self-censorship" but since it wasn't just Tarintino hacking the film or just removing elements, the two cuts, Western Theatrical and Japanese DVD contain more stylistic choices than anything else.

There's always this wrongful jump people make that different edits of a film is always considered to just be "censored or not censored" based on their limited understanding, not from the viewpoint of a creative decicion made by a creator for how their final cut is made to their specifications.

The Video Nasties and the hacking of films by the UK in the 1980's and 90's by the European government? That is censorship. 4Kids altering the original intended versions of Yu-Gi-Oh, One Piece, Pokemon and more? That was censorship. The government suppresion of themes in movies they feel is critical of their government practices or information? That is censorship.

Tarintino making his own specific changes on works that he isn't forced to make, merely reccomended to make, that he does so with an artistic flourish, that was his call and his right to alter with his own material in a state that he very much intended the people to see as he provided to them? Not actual censorship.

Not anymore so than it would be if someone writes a really disgusting fanfic and decides on their own halfway in, to remove 8 paragraphs from it after they thought better of it and decided this is what they want their audience to see.

The author of To Kill A Mockingbird deciding during the writing process to remove the other original half of the book idea they had to show that Atticus Finch was indeed a racist after all and that the book being from the point of view Finch's daughter being an unreliable narrator, because she decided the book would be received better if Atticus Finch was not a racist in the released book? Not censorship, just a creative choice in which she changed her mind on how the book should go. (Go Set A Watchman, which does contain this was released posthumously and against the author's previous stated intention, despite the lies of the layer that obtained the unpublished half of the book from her)

I see Kill Bill the same way. Tarantino never lost creative say in his own work, he merely decided differently how it was to be released after changing his own mind on it. That's not censorship.

Getting? This was included in the extended version from 2006. It wasn't released beyond the festivals back in the day; they didn't add this now

I literally had to fly over to Japan over a decade ago just to buy a Region 2 DVD of the fully uncut version of Kill Bill.

I mean, I wouldn't *mind* having the color version of the House Of Blue Leaves as an extra, but the black-and-white version is so dang cool that that's the one I'd watch by default, given the choice.
