Funimation Clarifies Status of Possible FunimationNow App on Nintendo Switch in Statement

posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins

Funimation gave ANN a statement on Saturday regarding a possible FunimationNow streaming app on the Nintendo Switch. Funimation gave the statement after it said a fan posted an "erroneous tweet" stating that Funimation announced the app at its industry panel on Friday at the C2E2 event.

The statement reads:

Dear fans, you may have heard some news announcing our FunimationNow streaming app on Nintendo Switch. For clarity, you should know that we did not make that official announcement, though we would very much like to do just that and are in the early stages of navigating the possibility. The enthusiasm we are seeing certainly lets us know we have fan support in working to get on the Nintendo Platform. When we have anything official to announce, you will hear it from us first.

Funimation launched the FunimationNow app for iOS, Android, Kindle, and Windows 10 devices in the United States in March 2016, replacing its old streaming apps on various devices. The app also launched in the United Kingdom and Ireland in the same month, and then launched in Australia and New Zealand in March 2017.

The app launched for Amazon Fire TV, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Roku in July 2016. The app is also available on Apple TV. Funimation announced in September 2016 that it would release the app for the PlayStation Vita, but the app isn't currently available on the device.
