Macross Frontier Vocal Collection Album: Nyan Tama sold 86,450 copies to rank #2 in the most recent Oricon weekly album sales chart for Japan. This is the third Macross Frontier album in a row to rank in the top three. The first Macross Frontier soundtrack had sold 72,000 copies in its first week to rank #3 in June, which had made it the first anime album in 11 years to reach the top three. The second Macross Frontier soundtrack had sold 102,000 copies in its first week in October — the first time that any soundtrack, anime or live-action, had sold more than 100,000 copies in its first week since 1997's The End of Evangelion album.
Macross Frontier singer May'n (May Nakabayashi) will release an original mini album, May'n Street, on January 21, while two novelty CD singles by the characters Bobby Margo, Sheryl Nome, and Ranka Lee will ship on December 24. Yoko Kanno (Macross Plus, Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Escaflowne) composed the music in Macross Frontier, the recently concluded television sequel to the Macross space opera series. The anime creators are planning to release a theatrical Macross Frontier film next summer.
Flumpool sold 20,736 copies of the Unreal album, which includes a theme song from the manga-based Bloody Monday drama, to rank at #8 in its second week. The sixth Sound Episode audio drama for Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2 debuted at #13 with 16,330 copies. The reorchestrated Studio Ghibli Songs CD dropped to #14 in its second week with 14,730 copies. Miku no Kanzume, the album from Oster project that features the virtual singer Miku Hatsune, debuted at #21 with 10,043 copies.
