Hal Blu-ray Disc/DVD Slated for December 18

posted on by Rae First

Wit Studio announced on Friday that the Blu-ray Disc and DVD for the Hal anime will ship on December 18.

The deluxe edition will include footage of the preview screening and other events, making-of video, a video of voice actor Yoshimasa Hosoya before the dialogue recording, a special interview with Yoshimasa Hosoya and Yōko Hikasa, storyboards, a collection of animation sketches, and trailers. The edition will also bundle an original soundtrack, a special booklet (with an essay by scriptwriter Izumi Kizara, an exclusive manga, and a roundtable discussion by the staff), and a post card set drawn by the character designer Katsuhiko Kitada.

The "near-future romance" film Hal follows a girl named Kurumi (voiced by Yōko Hikasa) who lost Haru (Yoshimasa Hosoya), a boy she liked, in a plane accident. A robot "Robo Hal (Haru)" turns into her substitute for Haru.

Ryōtarō Makihara (storyboard and episode direction on Guilty Crown, The Tatami Galaxy) is made his directorial debut with this film. Izumi Kizara (live-action Sexy Voice and Robo) is wrote the screenplay, which is not based on preexisting material. Art director Asami Kiyokawa (Paradise Kiss) collaborated on the key piece of visual art that Betsuma published in a fold-out poster. A manga adaptation will also run in Betsuma.

The film opened on June 8, 2013 in Japan. FUNimation recently announced that it had acquired the rights to Wit Studio's Hal anime film.
