Will the hype still be there, though?

At least they won’t be accused of rushing it.

Frozen 2 (2019) came out 6 years after the first one in 2013, and the hype for Frozen is still strong. So I do think the hype for KPop Demon Hunters 2 will still be there as long as the K-pop music genre is still ongoing, and it still has been since I've been in that fandom for 12 years.

I'm all for giving them all the time they need to cook. I'm looking forward to the sequel.

If it's good, it won't matter how long it takes to come out.

There was a 5 year gap between Into the Spiderverse and Across the Spiderverse; their respective box office incomes were 390 mill and 690 mill. As long as the movie is good, audiences will turn up even if there's a long gap

Let's not fool ourselves, there'll be a live action version between now and then and probably a concert.

Well yes, but those movies are Spider-Man movies, they have a built-in audience. KPop Demon Hunters is a wholly original IP, there is a very strong chance the hype dies, or at least suffers in the gap.

There's a quote by one of the directors saying she couldn't imagine it working in live-action, and I'd agree.

...Unnnnfortunately though, she's not the one who owns the property, Sony and Netflix are, and I totally see them beating the horse till it's long dead.

I don't think so, as long as the K-pop genre is still going strong in the US, then the hype for the sequel is still there. I don't think it'll died down unless something happened to the music genre itself.

Only Netflix owns it - Sony is just the animation studio

But Netflix knows well enough to go back to the creators for the sequel, and they know that the creators don't think it'll work as live-action

A concert though is definitely happening - the Huntr/x singers will be at iHeartRadio's Jingle Ball 2025 concert in Los Angeles on Dec. 5 at the Intuit Dome for their first-ever live concert appearance as the group

The idea of a live-action version has been thoroughly rejected by just about everyone. I mean what would that add? Adam Sandler as their manager?

Wai-wha? Ken Jeong! Who else can it ever be?! Laughing

Anyways, Grammys just got announced - KPop Demon Hunters has scored 5 Grammy nominations, including Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media. “Golden” (performed by Ejae, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami/written by Ejae and Mark Sonnenblick) is up for Best Remixed Recording, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, and Best Song Written for Visual Media.

Most notably, “Golden” was nominated for Song of the Year. This isn’t a huge surprise, considering how “Golden” has dominated the charts and pop culture for months. If you follow trends at the Grammys, though, you know that “Golden” getting into Best Song is a big deal. Up until now, tunes from animated films have gone overlooked in the Song of the Year category for almost 3 decades! The last one was way back from The Lion King - not even Frozen's "Let It Go" received a nomination
