This is purely hypothetical, but can any of you imagine yourself still being an anime fan at the age of 65? Assuming that anime and manga will still exist and that both haven't quite taken over the world yet (though they might have risen quite a bit in popularity in the future, lol), is it possible for any of you to remain attached to the fandom at such an age?
It's hard to really see myself still holding on to a few of my DVDs and manga past mid-life. I'm sure that I'll probably remain a fan for at least a decade or so, seeing as I still have ample room for the stuff in my life. But to see myself retire in forty more years and watch anime with the same zeal I have now is really tough to do. For right now though, I'll just enjoy the ride and continue to enjoy anime and manga. It may be surprising to see how long I might last with the hobby! |

I got into anime when I was 30. That's been 8, almost 9, years now.
Yes, I can see myself, at this point, still into anime. And not retired because I'll have to work to support my anime habit! |

I think that I'll still be a fan at that age, yes. It's funny, because I was actually contemplating this question a few days ago.
I think that I definately will be. Anime has always been a part of my life, and it's not something that I will just forget about as I get older. Honestly, I enjoy anime more and more as I get older. That having been said, I'm only 19... 
Anime isn't just a form of entertainment for me, it's a way of life. |

As long as Japan keeps making good anime that I actually want to watch, and as long as I don't get bored with my favorites, I will continue to be an anime fan. Also, some of my stuff I'd want to keep around to share with future children, like Miyazaki films and some of my less threatening series like Loki Ragnarok and Haibane Renmei.

I certainly can see myself holding on to my fandom at that age. Actually, I can see myself as a crotchety old anime fan whining about the good ol' days...
"Back in my day, we didn't have yer fancy-fancy 3-D full immersion helmets or googledybytes worth of computer polygons! We had a flat, 2-D TV screen, and all the anime got drawn by hand by animators who had to climb Mt. Fuji uphill both ways just to get to the studio to do them drawin's! And we couldn't super-riverstream shows as they was bein' animated, neither... we had to give a fifth of vodka to a mafia don to have a 3rd generation VHS tape missing half the subtitles fif-teen years after the show aired in Japan! And we was grateful!!!" Then I get taken back to the home while my grandkids auction off all my 'classic anime goods' to pay for Dragon Quest 32.

I look at animes as (in some cases really long) animated movies from Japan, and I'll probably still like movies when I'm 65 so now that I've discovered that there are good animes, I guess that as long as they keep making animes that I want to watch and enjoy, then I'll probably still like it.

Why not?
I've said this for a couple of other hobbies that I've otherwise stopped, but I'm confident that I'll stick with anime for a very long time maybe even until the day I die. But I'm more confident this time around, because this is the first time I've really gotten into an actual medium. |

I don't think it's really that hard to fathom staying a fan that long. I read comic books just as much as I ever have, but the stuff I read at 28 is different than what I read at 18, which is different than what I read at 8. Your tastes grow and change, naturally, and you probably won't want to watch Generic Shonen Action Squad when you're 65 but if you still have a love for the artform you'll probably still follow it. I know I will. I love animation, always have.

Can't see why not, it's not too many years in my case anyway. I can't think of anything that would stop me, other than it being made illegal, or all the anime production companies going bust...

That annie_Jr....wow. I want to be that old into anime! If she returns we should give her a big hello!
Anyway I always imagined myself an old lady on her deathbed surrounded by her children and grandchildren. I'm also surrounded by all the awesome anime things. I'm even in a replica of the old people bed in Roujin Z! My family are also fans because of me and I die happily. Yes...I going to be a fan until I'm wrinkled! |

Well firstly it depends on how Anime develops. Who knows what Anime will be like by the time I retire. Assuming it retains its quality though, I don't see a problem.
The bigger question is where I'll be in 45 years. I don't even know what I'll be doing, how I'll have changed, etc in 5 so I have no clue about it by the time I retire. |

I definately don't see a problem being an anime fan well into my 60's (assuming I'm here that long!)
My thinking is, Anime is so diverse with so many different types, styles and genres,once your an Otaku, your hooked for life!

Quoted for truth. Anime is kinda like cigarettes or hard drugs that way. I started with anime around 9 years ago, and while I had some time off for a year or two, it just hung out at the back of my mind, forcing me to stop in front of the manga shelves in bookstores when I should be shopping for school stuff, or to pause on anime shown on TV, when I should be watching CNN or the BBC. So, yeah, I can see myself still appreciating at least some anime by the time I'm 65. Plus, at that age, I'd probably have loads more disposable income than right now, haha.
