Burger King To Recall Pokémon Toys
U.S. Hamburger chain Burger King announced the recall of 25 million Pokémon Pokeball toys yesterday, after a 13-month-old California girl suffocated to death on half of one of the toys. In another incident, a father was able to remove part of a ball that had gotten stuck on an 18-month-old girl's face before she suffocated.
"More than 25 million of the Pokeballs are part of the recall," said Burger King spokesman Charles Nicolas. "That's because they may pose a suffocation hazard for children under three years of age."
In exchange for the toys, the restaurant chain is offering a free order of French fries.
Pokeballs are 7 centimeters in diameter and consist of two plastic hemispheres containing small figures of Pokémon characters, they are part of a toy promotion launched last month to coincide with the premiere of Pokémon: The First Movie.
