Shuto Con celebrates Sailor Moon and a big reunion at 5th annual convention
Lansing, Mich., Mar. 2nd - On what is considered by staff of the Lansing Center to be a rare occasion, for one weekend the entire convention hall in the heart of the capital, will be completely reserved.
Shuto Con, Lansing's premier anime and cosplay convention, is using the entire Lansing Center for the weekend of Mar. 20 to 22, for what is planned to be the biggest event yet.
Between a rather large reunion event of the cast from the popular anime franchise, Black Butler, to nightly dances and concerts, and even a dodgeball tournament, it is no wonder Shuto Con needs all this space to jam-pack this content into just one weekend.
"There are a lot of good reasons for us to reserve the entire convention hall," said Will Burgess, Convention Vice Chairman. "This also allows us more control over the entire event space, and to live up to our Safe Space initiative."
In 2013 Shuto Con decided to be come a Safe Space, which means attendees of all walks of life are encouraged to come as they are without having to be afraid of being bullied or harassed.
This also means the convention provides a recognizable presence of security staff, and policies against bullying or harassment; closing the convention hall to outsiders who do not purchase a convention badge means staff can bolster their Safe Space against harassment even more.
"We have a lot of people looking forward to our special events with our guests, like Jennifer Cihi, who was the singing voice of Sailor Moon in the anime, so we're encouraging people to buy their badges online now before registration closes this coming Friday."
Among the events planned for Sailor Moon fans include a concert by Cihi, group photoshoot of cosplayers, a discussion panel on the influence of the Sailor Moon anime, including the new remake airing in Japan now.
"Sailor Moon has been an inspiration for many of us, and it can not be denied that the US airing of Sailor Moon in the 90's paved the way for a new generation of Anime fans," said Stefanie Shall, Convention Chairwoman.
Fans will be able to meet with special guests from this and other popular anime in the expansive Vending and Artist Alley, which can be found filling up the entire Expo Hall A at Lansing Center. Also new this year is a main attraction stage that will encompass all of the expansive Hall C, and will be the new home to the revamped electronic dances, and, yes, the Puppies and Kittens charity event ran by the Capital Area Humane Society is back by popular demand.
"I love being able to help out the CAHS as much as I can, and by them coming to our event and bringing adoptable puppies and kitties, which can be cuddled with for a donation, we hope to help them bring in some much needed donations. " said Shall.
