Round 1 Group C is now closed.

I'm looking at this round and seeing a lot of blow-outs, but I've been wrong before. As with Group B, all Guide entries are now individual and keyed to the character's name. Group C-15 earns the honor for the smallest combined total of letters ever in two contenders' names, at a mere four.

Group C-1
Gohan, Dragonball Z
vs.
Sana Kurata, Kodocha

Who woulda thunk it...but I'm voting for Gohan, not because I like him but that I think that he's a lot more heroic than Sana.

Group C-2
Nausicaa, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind
vs.
Lenalee Lee, D. Gray-man

Nausicaa because I've seen the movie and GIRL POWER!

Group C-3
Noa Izumi, Patlabor franchise
vs.
Pazu, Castle in the Sky

Pazu because I like how the kid held up in a situation that he never expected that he'd be in.

Group C-4
Ichigo Kurasaki, Bleach
vs.
Shaoran Li, Cardcaptor Sakura

This one is so darn, darn, darn hard but I'm going to have to go with Ichigo because I think that he does more...are you sure I can't vote for both?

Group C-5
Relena Peacecraft, Mobile Suit Gundam Wing
vs.
Ginji Amano, Getbackers

Relena because it not only takes courage to darn a lunatic to kill you, but it also takes guts to decide to try and change the universe even when it's taken away someone that you love.

Group C-6
Kurau Amami, Kurau Phantom Memory
vs.
Oboro, Utawarerumono

Oboro because he deserves it for trying his best to protect the ones that he loves and later, the people as a whole.

Group C-7
Yang Wen Li, The Legend of the Galactic Heroes
vs.
Kekko Kamen, Kekko Kamen (warning: this Guide entry contains nudity)

Kekko I flipped a coin.

Group C-8
Lady Oscar, The Rose of Versailles
vs.
Arusu, Tweeny Witches

Lady Oscar going with the classic that I've never seen but have heard a lot of.

Group C-9
Yuko “Yasako” Okonagi, Denno Coil
vs.
Yugo Beppu, Yugo The Negotiator

Yugo basing this choice on what I've heard about this character.

Group C-10
Porco Rosso, Porco Rosso
vs.
Ai Tanabe, Planetes

Porco, I have a thing for dashing, amazing men and their flying machines.

Group C-11
Tochiro, Gun Frontier
vs.
Franz D’Epinay, Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo

Franz - coin flip

Group C-12
Sophie, Howl’s Moving Castle
vs.
Monkey D. Luffy, One Piece

Sophie because Girl Power isn't always connected to a fist or gun.

Group C-13
Quatre Raberra Winne, Mobile Suit Gundam Wing
vs.
Duck/Princess Tutu, Princess Tutu

Duck because even though she knew that she would NEVER get the one that she fell in love with, she continued to try and save him and the person she originally intended to save.

Group C-14
Tatsumi Saiga, Speed Grapher
vs.
Jane Buxton, Secret of Cerulean Sand

Tatsumi coin flip

Group C-15
Age, Heroic Age
vs.
D, Vampire Hunter D

Age coin flip

Group C-16
Leo, Jungle Emperor Leo/Kimba the White Lion
vs.
Alice L. Malvin, Pumpkin Scissors

Leo because he's the better of the two, imo.

Central Standard Time is indeed GMT -6, I was able to verify that, but... not to be a pain, but if that is indeed "Forum Time", then that would mean that this latest round ended at around 10:00 PM Forum Time I think, not 11:00 PM. Did the forum finally account for Daylight Savings Time without you realizing it, or am I just confused?

No, the forum never adjusted its clock for DST. Thus this post, which is going up by 1:04 a.m. EST, should read 12:04 a.m. on an unadjusted forum time.

I'm confused. Not that being confused is that uncommon for me. I should just shut up and not worry about the time issue, but I'm stubborn, so please forgive me for going on.

I've checked several online sites to make sure I'm not making mistakes, and I'm fairly certain that your post actually went up at 1:04 EDT, that is, 1:04 Eastern Daylight Time (GMT -4). Your post would have been at 12:04 Eastern Standard Time, or EST (GMT -5).

If the forum clock for you showed it at 12:04, it would mean the forum is currently showing you either Eastern Standard Time (GMT -5) or Central Daylight Time (also GMT -5). Actually, if I recall correctly, when choosing your forum time in your profile it doesn't even list named timezones, just the relation to GMT.

Thanks! Though I noticed a few minor mistakes in the "Total Score" column. It looks like Earth_Wyrm has a score of 18 listed when it should be 28 judging by his rank, and abunai and Aylinn seem to not have had their scores from this round added in yet.

Hmm, looking at this post of mine, I hope people realize that I am honestly just trying to be helpful, and not come off like some arrogant know-it-all or anything.

On a different note, I see the brackets are up, so I'll probably make my votes fairly soon. Expect many long posts going on and on about how great Duck is, though since this match should be a complete blowout in her favor, my posts will probably be fairly short this round. Relatively speaking, of course.

Group C-1
Gohan, Dragonball Z
vs.
Sana Kurata, Kodocha

Wow, this is the tough one of the group for me. I would probably vote for Sana in other circumstances (what she did for the Hayama family alone earns her spot), but Gohan has a proven track record in saving the world (even as a kid!) and thus has the edge here.

Group C-2
Nausicaa, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind
vs.
Lenalee Lee, D. Gray-man

I'm more familiar with Nausicaa, and think she's a top contender in this group anyway. She'll utterly ruin my bracket if she doesn't win. A lot.

Group C-3
Noa Izumi, Patlabor franchise
vs.
Pazu, Castle in the Sky

Hmmm, not very passionate either way on this one. I'll stay with the Miyazaki theme and go for Pazu.

Group C-4
Ichigo Kurasaki, Bleach
vs.
Shaoran Li, Cardcaptor Sakura

Ichigo is pretty convincingly heroic on a very consistent basis. Shaoran just can't compete.

Group C-5
Relena Peacecraft, Mobile Suit Gundam Wing
vs.
Ginji Amano, Getbackers

Another pairing where I know little about either character. Relena's Guide entry is more hazy on her heroism than Ginji's, so I'll go with the latter.

Group C-6
Kurau Amami, Kurau Phantom Memory
vs.
Oboro, Utawarerumono

I'm familiar with both, and Oboro (IMO a borderline inclusion in the tournament) is totally outclassed here. Kurau for the win.

Group C-7
Yang Wen Li, The Legend of the Galactic Heroes
vs.
Kekko Kamen, Kekko Kamen (warning: this Guide entry contains nudity)

Yes, the Guide entry has to have nudity in it or it wouldn't be true to the spirit of Kekko Kamen. Yang Wen Li sound like a great guy and will probably win handily, but you gotta respect someone who goes around beating up bad guys while basically starkers.

Group C-8
Lady Oscar, The Rose of Versailles
vs.
Arusu, Tweeny Witches

I like what I saw of Arusu, but I have to go with the classic here. Lady Oscar it is.

Group C-9
Yuko “Yasako” Okonagi, Denno Coil
vs.
Yugo Beppu, Yugo The Negotiator

Yugo makes a great protagonist, but I'm not so sure about him as an heroic type. Yasako's Guide entry, though minimal, is enough to sell me on her for now.

Group C-10
Porco Rosso, Porco Rosso
vs.
Ai Tanabe, Planetes

Breaking with the Miyazaki theme. Ai deserves to win at least one round just for the feat described in the Guide entry. I still think she was way overrated by the nominations process, but she gets the nod here.

Group C-11
Tochiro, Gun Frontier
vs.
Franz D’Epinay, Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo

Franz is a weak choice for even being here, so I'm going to give Tochiro the benefit of the doubt.

Group C-12
Sophie, Howl’s Moving Castle
vs.
Monkey D. Luffy, One Piece

Sophie also seems like a marginal choice for being here, while Luffy is not. He'll win at least two rounds, maybe more.

Group C-13
Quatre Raberra Winne, Mobile Suit Gundam Wing
vs.
Duck/Princess Tutu, Princess Tutu

Quatre's got some merits, but he's up against arguably the elite heroine amongst all magical girls. I can't imagine anyone who's actually seen Princess Tutu voting against Duck at this stage; how can you not support a heroine who breaks outside of her assigned role and literally turns what's supposed to be a tragic story into a happy ending?

Group C-14
Tatsumi Saiga, Speed Grapher
vs.
Jane Buxton, Secret of Cerulean Sand

Speed Grapher may have been a crap series, but Saiga and how he battled to save Kagura was its one redeeming virtue. He's more deserving here.

Group C-15
Age, Heroic Age
vs.
D, Vampire Hunter D

I've seen a little of Heroic Age, but how can you outclass D? Won't happen in this match.

Group C-16
Leo, Jungle Emperor Leo/Kimba the White Lion
vs.
Alice L. Malvin, Pumpkin Scissors

This is a curious match-up, since Leo is an actual lion and Alice is likened to one at one point. Leo will definitely get some votes based on his status as one of the all-time classics, but he ultimately is not as deserving as Alice, a veritable classic knight in a burnt orange military uniform. I've made my arguments for her in the Guide entry, so be sure to read that before just automatically voting for Leo.

Group C-1
Gohan, Dragonball Z
vs.
Sana Kurata, Kodocha

Voting for: Gohan

Reason: I don't expect him to last long, but he's good enough for now.

Group C-2
Nausicaa, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind
vs.
Lenalee Lee, D. Gray-man

Voting for: Nausicaa

Reason: I nominated Lenalee, and against almost anyone else in this bracket I would have voted for her, sadly she meets too strong of a heroine in the first round.

Group C-3
Noa Izumi, Patlabor franchise
vs.
Pazu, Castle in the Sky

Voting for: Pazu

Group C-4
Ichigo Kurasaki, Bleach
vs.
Shaoran Li, Cardcaptor Sakura

Voting for: Ichigo

Reason: The very first episode of the series probably shows Ichigo's heroic qualifications the best. He was doing heroic things even before he aquired power, and did not hesitate to have his life (and soul) changed forever to protect his family.

Group C-5
Relena Peacecraft, Mobile Suit Gundam Wing
vs.
Ginji Amano, Getbackers

Voting for: Ginji Amano

Reason: Ginji really is the kind of character this tournament is all about. His heart is in the right place, and he inspires those who worked for him and others around him to be better people themselves.

Group C-6
Kurau Amami, Kurau Phantom Memory
vs.
Oboro, Utawarerumono

Voting for: Oboro

Reason: With Karau's popularity I fully expect Oboro to lose this one. However, during the course of his series he grows from a headstrong young punk, into a great warrior and leader.

Group C-7
Yang Wen Li, The Legend of the Galactic Heroes
vs.
Kekko Kamen, Kekko Kamen (warning: this Guide entry contains nudity)

Voting for: Yang Wen Li

Reason: I'm about halfway through The legend of the Galactic Heroes at the moment, and he is probably the best example of a reluctant hero in the series, who puts aside his dreams to support his friends despite the guilt it causes him from harming the enemy. On an un-related note I really think he should have seen some more support in the last tournament as he is one of the more forward-thinking characters I can remember.

Group C-8
Lady Oscar, The Rose of Versailles
vs.
Arusu, Tweeny Witches

Voting for: Lady Oscar

Group C-9
Yuko “Yasako” Okonagi, Denno Coil
vs.
Yugo Beppu, Yugo The Negotiator

Voting for: Yuko “Yasako” Okonagi

Reason: She is thrust into a dangerous situation that is really out of her element, and even though she isn't the most dramatic example of a hero, her courage and willingness to risk herself for others is very impressive.

Group C-10
Porco Rosso, Porco Rosso
vs.
Ai Tanabe, Planetes

Voting for: Ai Tanabe

Group C-11
Tochiro, Gun Frontier
vs.
Franz D’Epinay, Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo

Voting for: Franz D'Epinay

Reason: Places his friends before himself, almost every time he is on the screen.

Group C-12
Sophie, Howl’s Moving Castle
vs.
Monkey D. Luffy, One Piece

Voting for: Luffy

Reason: I'm very curious to see how far Luffy can go. He isn't your average hero, but in my opinion he is worthy of the final four. There are many examples I could list, and if he doesn't do well I'll probably try and make some arguments on his behalf.

Group C-13
Quatre Raberra Winne, Mobile Suit Gundam Wing
vs.
Duck/Princess Tutu, Princess Tutu

Voting for: Duck

Group C-14
Tatsumi Saiga, Speed Grapher
vs.
Jane Buxton, Secret of Cerulean Sand

Voting for: Saiga

Group C-15
Age, Heroic Age
vs.
D, Vampire Hunter D

Voting for: D

Reason: He not only has to fight battles against others, but he also wages an inner battle with his vampiric urges.

Group C-16
Leo, Jungle Emperor Leo/Kimba the White Lion
vs.
Alice L. Malvin, Pumpkin Scissors

Voting for: Alice L. Malvin

Reason: She always tries to do right by the people despite bieng raised by a corrupt nobility.

Group C-1
Gohan, Dragonball Z
vs.
Sana Kurata, Kodocha

Gohan. He saves people even as a little kid. Classic hero.

Group C-2
Nausicaa, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind
vs.
Lenalee Lee, D. Gray-man

Nausicaa. I feel bad for Lenalee because she deserves to go further. Unfortunately, she got stuck with Nausicaa. Sad

Group C-3
Noa Izumi, Patlabor franchise
vs.
Pazu, Castle in the Sky

Pazu. Mostly because I'm not familiar with Noa and the guide couldn't convince me otherwise.

Group C-4
Ichigo Kurasaki, Bleach
vs.
Shaoran Li, Cardcaptor Sakura

Ichigo. He is always heroic.

Group C-5
Relena Peacecraft, Mobile Suit Gundam Wing
vs.
Ginji Amano, Getbackers

Ginji. I'm not familiar with either, but based on the guide I'll go with Ginji. I'd definitely be willing to change if a good argument appeared.

Group C-6
Kurau Amami, Kurau Phantom Memory
vs.
Oboro, Utawarerumono

Kurau. If Kurau isn't heroic, I don't know what is. Also not familiar with Oboro, but I don't think he'd be able to compete anyway.

Group C-7
Yang Wen Li, The Legend of the Galactic Heroes
vs.
Kekko Kamen, Kekko Kamen (warning: this Guide entry contains nudity)

Yang Wen Li. Previous comments AND a coin flip.

Group C-8
Lady Oscar, The Rose of Versailles
vs.
Arusu, Tweeny Witches

Arusu.
I honestly don't know about Lady Oscar, but Arusu definitely deserves to be represented here. She doesn't kill and even though she loves magic, frees the sprites that serve as magic protecting them from even her own friends. She's ridiculously positive and is flowing with courage. Deserves at least a fighting chance here.

Group C-9
Yuko “Yasako” Okonagi, Denno Coil
vs.
Yugo Beppu, Yugo The Negotiator

Yasako. Well I love Yasako, and she steps it up when the times come. She's great. Yugo couldn't sell me on the guide.

Group C-10
Porco Rosso, Porco Rosso
vs.
Ai Tanabe, Planetes

Ai. Well, I haven't seen either, but based on the Guide and comments, I'll go with Ai.

Group C-11
Tochiro, Gun Frontier
vs.
Franz D’Epinay, Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo

Tochiro. I haven't seen Gun Frontier, but since I've sen Gankutsuou and read the guide, I'll vote for him.

Group C-12
Sophie, Howl’s Moving Castle
vs.
Monkey D. Luffy, One Piece

Luffy. This guy should move on at least another round. He's great.

Group C-13
Quatre Raberra Winne, Mobile Suit Gundam Wing
vs.
Duck/Princess Tutu, Princess Tutu

Duck. Duck ftw. If you can twist what was written as bad and make it good, you are extremely heroic.

Group C-14
Tatsumi Saiga, Speed Grapher
vs.
Jane Buxton, Secret of Cerulean Sand

Tatsumi. Going with what I've seen (although not much) and the guide entries.

Group C-15
Age, Heroic Age
vs.
D, Vampire Hunter D

D.
Guides and what I can remember of D.

Group C-16
Leo, Jungle Emperor Leo/Kimba the White Lion
vs.
Alice L. Malvin, Pumpkin Scissors

Alice. Based on comments.

Group C-1
Gohan, Dragonball Z
vs.
Sana Kurata, Kodocha
My Vote: Gohan
Yah, Gohan can apparantly be quite literally described as "Goku Jr", and he therefore will almost certainly be overshadowed by his father, it seems like he does show plenty of heroism himself. Sana had a lot of debate around her in the nomination round, and though I wasn't fully convinced by those against her, it did make me think some. Going to have to give the vote to Gohan.

Group C-2
Nausicaa, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind
vs.
Lenalee Lee, D. Gray-man
My Vote: Nausicaa
Lenalee Lee actually sounds pretty nice from the description of her in the guide and the comments made during the nomination round, so it's a shame she went up against Nausicaa.

As I see it, Nausicaa is a classic heroine who selflessly strives to protect her people, and... actually, I still haven't seen Nausicaa (please don't kill me), so I may not be the best person to form arguments for her. But she's another one of those candidates who immediately springs to my mind the moment I hear the word "heroine", despite the fact that I hadn't actually seen her movie. And I don't think I am wrong in my estimation of her.

Group C-3
Noa Izumi, Patlabor franchise
vs.
Pazu, Castle in the Sky
My vote: Pazu
I remember my initial impression in the nomination process was that Pazu was the better choice, and the guide entries don't change that, so for now at least, Pazu it is.

Group C-4
Ichigo Kurasaki, Bleach
vs.
Shaoran Li, Cardcaptor Sakura
My vote: Ichigo Kurasaki
In my opinion, he's the least heroic of the big 3 shounen candidates in the tournament, but I suppose he has enough to go on this round, especially since I haven't seen an especially strong case for Shaoran.

Group C-5
Relena Peacecraft, Mobile Suit Gundam Wing
vs.
Ginji Amano, Getbackers
My vote: Ginji Amano
Ginji just sounds like a much stronger candidate, based on the guide entries and the nomination comments.

Group C-6
Kurau Amami, Kurau Phantom Memory
vs.
Oboro, Utawarerumono
My vote: Kurau
Kurau seemed like a very strong candidate from everything I heard about her in the nomination process, though sadly memory has faded and I cannot remember precisely what impressed me so much. Her guide entry seems strong, though, and thus there is more than enough in Kurau's favor to make me vote for her.

Group C-7
Yang Wen Li, The Legend of the Galactic Heroes
vs.
Kekko Kamen, Kekko Kamen (warning: this Guide entry contains nudity)
My Vote: Yang Wen Li
A weird match up. A very weird match up. I'm not even sure how to judge a character like Kekko Kamen. Yang sounds like a decent candidate, so I'll vote for him for now, but I might change if I get a good argument for Kekko.

Group C-8
Lady Oscar, The Rose of Versailles
vs.
Arusu, Tweeny Witches
My vote: Lady Oscar
Both choices sound fairly good, so it's a close one for me, especially since I haven't seen either series. Going with Oscar for now at least.

Group C-9
Yuko “Yasako” Okonagi, Denno Coil
vs.
Yugo Beppu, Yugo The Negotiator
My vote: Yugo Beppu
Yugo sounds like a pretty good choice from what I've heard, and I'm not familiar with either series, so I only have what I've heard to go on. Yugo impressed me more than Yuko during the nomination process, and Yugo's guide entry also makes me want to choose him.

Group C-10
Porco Rosso, Porco Rosso
vs.
Ai Tanabe, Planetes
My vote: Ai Tanabe
This tournament is good for reminding me just how many anime series and movies I still need to see. Ai's another one that impressed me a lot in the nomination round.

Group C-11
Tochiro, Gun Frontier
vs.
Franz D’Epinay, Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo
My vote: Tochiro
Got to go with my the guy I nominated here, at least in the absence of an especially strong oppenent. Tochiro may not be my choice to win the tournament, but he displays enough heroism to deserve to win this round. Despite his outer appearance and his somewhat crude manner, he is a true-hearted warrior, a great friend to Harlock, and a surprisingly compassionate man.

EDIT: Pic fixed now.

Group C-12
Sophie, Howl’s Moving Castle
vs.
Monkey D. Luffy, One Piece
My vote: Monkey D. Luffy
The best of the "big 3" shounen candidate in this tournament. A pirate who rarely acts like one, the sheer number of people Luffy has helped/saved over the course of the series is pretty impressive alone. His character, while perhaps a bit of a shounen cliche, is still pretty good in my mind, and he manages to avoid many of the flaws that other shounen cliche characters have that would detract from his heroism.

Group C-13
Quatre Raberra Winne, Mobile Suit Gundam Wing
vs.
Duck/Princess Tutu, Princess Tutu
My vote: Duck
Like there's a chance that I'm going to vote for anybody other than Duck, in any round of this tournament. Ok, maybe, maybe, if someone makes a really strong argument for one of maybe 2 or 3 possible contenders, I might consider voting for someone other than Duck to win the whole thing.

I'll avoid going into a long essay as to why for now, because the guide lists a fairly short and mostly spoiler free summery of why Duck is such a great choice, and this should be an easy match.

Group C-14
Tatsumi Saiga, Speed Grapher
vs.
Jane Buxton, Secret of Cerulean Sand
My vote: Tatsumi Saiga
It's hard to really judge Jane since I know so little about her. I haven't seen Saiga's series either, but I know enough to know that he is a fairly strong choice, and worthy of advancing unless facing another strong choice. Not sure that Jane is one now.

Group C-15
Age, Heroic Age
vs.
D, Vampire Hunter D
My vote: Age
A hard choice, because they both sound like they have some good points, and for what must be the dozenth time at least, I'm facing a pair of characters I have not seen the series for. Going with Age for now, make a good argument and I might change.

Group C-16
Leo, Jungle Emperor Leo/Kimba the White Lion
vs.
Alice L. Malvin, Pumpkin Scissors
My vote: Alice L. Melvin
Going with Alice, based largely on the various comments I've read about her in the nomination process and elsewhere. She seems like a good choice.

Gohan: I was going to write about his wimpiness because I thought he was against Lenalee when reading the descriptions, but it turns out that he was just against a nosy school girl.

Group C-2
Lenalee: Nausicaa is a disgusting dogmatist whose reaction to the razing of a huge population center is "even an Ohmu." Maybe a goblin cleric will accidentally burn down the Valley of the Wind, and we may all have peace.

Group C-3
Noa: Could be either, but I did nominate her.

Group C-4
Ichigo: Ah, poor Li and his playing second fiddle to Sakura has worked against him.

Group C-5
Ginji

Group C-6
Kurau

Group C-7
Yang: Sounds like an accomplished, traditional hero in a setting on the realistic to cynical region.

Group C-8
Oscar: Almost voted against her because I was confusing her with Utena in my mind. Oscar seems to be a pretty good example of the white knight. Her opponent is neither impressive nor disappointing, but not quite at the same level.

Group C-9
Yugo: Could be an example of where a long, detailed, and well-crafted description winning against a short, perfunctory one. Alternatively, it's just because I found his opponent unimpressive.

Group C-10
Ai: Women's intuition

Group C-11
Tochiro: The word "good person" rather than "hero" comes to mind when reading his opponent's description. While being a good person certainly contributes to being a hero, it is not a sufficient condition.

Group C-12
Luffy: For the classic shounen mold.

Group C-13
Duck: There is something about being a caricature of a strange passive-aggressive philosophy on war in a giant robot that makes it hard to regard him as a hero.

Group C-14
Tatsumi

Group C-15
Age: Classic--in the literary sense--epic hero against a somewhat grey hero.

Group C-16
Alice: Well, I'll be honest here. It's hard for any description to overcome the experience of having watched a series and considering the character a good hero (the exception is Renton vs. Shu, where two are obviously similar, and Shu sounds like Renton without the immature phase).

Match C-1: Gohan
Beyond helping Hayama in the first several episodes of Kodocha, I couldn't recall anything else about Sana besides her silly antics. Gohan wins for being able to spoiler[take his father's place in kicking evil butt in the Cell saga] though I see him getting owned by Nausicaa next round.

Match C-2: Nausicaa
Perhaps the strongest contender for this group. Nausicaa has all the qualities of a classic heroine: she's strong-willed, cares for the safety of human and creature alike, works at conserving her village's environmental stability from the pollution of the outside world, and spoiler[becomes a symbol of hope and perseverence for her village when her father is murdered.]

Match C-3: Pazu
I'm a sap for his heroics in rescuing Sheeta in Laputa.

Match C-4: Ichigo Kurosaki
Unfortunately for Shaoran, he had to be Sakura's rival for the Clow Cards and was quite a jerk at the start of CCS at trying to get the cards for himself. Seeing a few of the early episodes and some later episodes of Bleach on Adult Swim, it's safe for me to say Ichigo has decent qualities as a hero, even while being of the shounen variety.

Match C-5: Relena Peacecraft
For being able to put her life at risk to deal with OZ for her homeland's safety, Relena earns my vote.

Match C-6: Kurau Amani
Unlike Christmas in the last bracket, Kurau definitely deserves her spot in this tourney for her selfless heroics in dealing with both the humans who target her and later on, spoiler[the Rynax that threaten humanity].

Match C-7: Yang Wenli
Since I can't take Kekko Kamen as a serious heroine, I vote for Yang by default.

Match C-8: Lady Oscar
It would be interesting to see her and Nausicaa square off two rounds from now. The gal's another famous anime heroine and it would be pretty foolish for her to lose this early.

Match C-9: Yugo Beppu
Yugo's description makes him off as a man who puts his status and standing at risk to ensure the safety of others. This seems bigger in my book than a young girl dealing with mysterious beings in the virtual world. That, and Yasako's entry doesn't seem to do much in holding up.

Match C-10: Porco Rosso
Another Ghibli hero I nominated. The fact he gets respect even from his rivals and opposes an upcoming dark direction for his country earns Porco my vote.

Match C-11: Franz D'Epinay
Both characters seem 'meh' to me. But I'll go with Franz this round since he dealt with the likes of a man like the Count.

Match C-12: Monkey D. Luffy
Sophie's heroics are only for a single man while Luffy has his "nakama" and innocent villagers to protect against evil pirates. I can see Luffy holding up for a couple rounds at least.

Match C-13: Quatre Rabera Winner
Despite his pascifst beliefs, Quatre becomes a Gundam pilot to protect the colonies. I don't know enough about Duck to consider voting for her.

Match C-14: Jane Buxton
Something about a girl going out on a journey making good deeds while searching for a family member has made me enough of a sap to vote for her despite the obscurity of her series.

Match C-15: D
D helps protect humans while fighting off his own urges for blood as a vampire. Since I nominated for him, I'd like to see D at least win a round.

Match C-16: Leo
Another classic hero thought up by Osamu Tezuka. I'd like to see Leo go a few rounds in this tourney.

Though I noticed a few minor mistakes in the "Total Score" column. It looks like Earth_Wyrm has a score of 18 listed when it should be 28 judging by his rank, and abunai and Aylinn seem to not have had their scores from this round added in yet.

Oops. I've sent the corrected version to ccdx, so it should be right soon.

Meanwhile, here's the spreadsheet for the current results. Again, mini-game guesses predicted most of the outcomes pretty well, except for the surprise that was Shurei vs Saito.

Group C-1
Gohan, Dragonball Z
vs.
Sana Kurata, Kodocha

I'm less than enchanted with this matchup... but I suppose that I'll have to throw my support with Gohan, since I don't really view Sana as heroic (much as I love her).

Group C-2
Nausicaa, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind
vs.
Lenalee Lee, D. Gray-man

Oh, easy-peasy. Nausicaa ought to sweep this one easily.

Group C-3
Noa Izumi, Patlabor franchise
vs.
Pazu, Castle in the Sky

A tricky one. I guess.... my vote goes to plucky Noa. I've been a fan of hers ever since the very first episode of Patlabor TV, when she wrote "mine" on the labor that she'd picked out.

Group C-4
Ichigo Kurosaki, Bleach
vs.
Shaoran Li, Cardcaptor Sakura

It may be a shounen potboiler, but Bleach generally delivers the goods when it comes to heroism. My vote goes to Ichigo Kurosaki (note: there's a typo in his name in the listings).

Group C-5
Relena Peacecraft, Mobile Suit Gundam Wing
vs.
Ginji Amano, Getbackers

Hmm. I dunno. Penny B to the rescue -- tails, it's Ginji.

Group C-6
Kurau Amami, Kurau Phantom Memory
vs.
Oboro, Utawarerumono

On balance, I consider Kurau far more heroic than Oboro, though he has his moments -- still, she gets my vote.

Group C-7
Yang Wen Li, The Legend of the Galactic Heroes
vs.
Kekko Kamen, Kekko Kamen (warning: this Guide entry contains nudity)

Oh, yah, Yang Wen-Li, how could it be otherwise? If nothing else, how could I vote for anyone except the historian-turned-hero?

Group C-8
Lady Oscar, The Rose of Versailles
vs.
Arusu, Tweeny Witches

A tough one. Alice (never mind the phony literalisms, her name is Alice, for obvious reasons) is a tough little cookie, and she has everything a good heroine ought to have, and more. Even so, I feel compelled to vote for Lady Oscar, who can swash a buckler like nobody else.

Group C-9
Yuko “Yasako” Okonagi, Denno Coil
vs.
Yugo Beppu, Yugo The Negotiator

Absolutely, unequivocally, no contest: Yasako ought to win this one.

Group C-10
Porco Rosso, Porco Rosso
vs.
Ai Tanabe, Planetes

Tough choice, but Tanabe is something special (even more special than a porcine aviator -- sometimes, it would seem, pigs do fly). She gets my vote.

Group C-11
Tochiro, Gun Frontier
vs.
Franz D’Epinay, Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo

No really strong opinion either way, but my penny says: Tochiro.

Group C-12
Sophie, Howl’s Moving Castle
vs.
Monkey D. Luffy, One Piece

My money's on Luffy. If nothing else, the whole Enie's Lobby arc is proof that he stops at nothing to back up his crew. He's the real deal.

Group C-13
Quatre Raberra Winne, Mobile Suit Gundam Wing
vs.
Duck/Princess Tutu, Princess Tutu

Duck. I'm voting for the duck. Yes, indeedy.

Group C-14
Tatsumi Saiga, Speed Grapher
vs.
Jane Buxton, Secret of Cerulean Sand

Apparently, my lot in life is to vote for plucky young heroines. In this case, Jane Buxton gets my vote.

Group C-15
Age, Heroic Age
vs.
D, Vampire Hunter D

Another easy one: Age. Monkey-like and innocent though he may be, he is made of the right stuff.

Group C-16
Leo, Jungle Emperor Leo/Kimba the White Lion
vs.
Alice L. Malvin, Pumpkin Scissors

Decisions, decisions. Nope, I don't have a strong enough opinion. I'll leave it up to my penny, which likes Kimba, the very first anime hero I ever saw. Clever little coin.

vs.
Oboro, Utawarerumono

Kurau

Group C-7
Yang Wen Li, The Legend of the Galactic Heroes
vs.
Kekko Kamen, Kekko Kamen (warning: this Guide entry contains nudity)

Yang Wen Li
This guy saved 3 million of civilians in one action. Though lazy and unheroic at first glance, he is able to come up with a solution to difficult situations and in this way save others from problems (death is one of those problems).

Group C-8
Lady Oscar, The Rose of Versailles
vs.
Arusu, Tweeny Witches

Voting for a classical heroine Very Happy Lady Oscar

Yuko “Yasako” Okonagi, Denno Coil

Group C-1
Gohan, Dragonball Z
vs.
Sana Kurata, Kodocha
Gohan appears more heroey.

Group C-2
Nausicaa, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind
vs.
Lenalee Lee, D. Gray-man
I was going to vote for Nausicaa without even looking at her competition, but I decided to check out Lenalee. She seems pretty heroic, and I could see myself voting for her if she were up against somebody else.

Group C-3
Noa Izumi, Patlabor franchise
vs.
Pazu, Castle in the Sky
Hmm. Nothing really heroic in either guide entry, so I guess I'll vote for Noa because at least hers made me laugh.

Group C-4
Ichigo Kurasaki, Bleach
vs.
Shaoran Li, Cardcaptor Sakura
Ichigo because he has spikier hair.

Group C-5
Relena Peacecraft, Mobile Suit Gundam Wing
vs.
Ginji Amano, Getbackers
I liked Ginji's guide entry better.

Group C-6
Kurau Amami, Kurau Phantom Memory
vs.
Oboro, Utawarerumono
Kurau

Group C-7
Yang Wen Li, The Legend of the Galactic Heroes
vs.
Kekko Kamen, Kekko Kamen (warning: this Guide entry contains nudity)
Yang appears to be an upstanding citizen.

Group C-8
Lady Oscar, The Rose of Versailles
vs.
Arusu, Tweeny Witches
I like Lady Oscar more.

Group C-9
Yuko “Yasako” Okonagi, Denno Coil
vs.
Yugo Beppu, Yugo The Negotiator
Yugo: The Negotiator coming soon...

Group C-10
Porco Rosso, Porco Rosso
vs.
Ai Tanabe, Planetes
Ai Tanabe is just way too just and righteous, and rightly so.

Group C-11
Tochiro, Gun Frontier
vs.
Franz D’Epinay, Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo
This was a tough match. Sweet hat versus sweet jacket. In the end, I wish everybody wore cool hats again (but not top hats), that would be awesome. I'd totally sport a fedora every day. Tochiro wins. Edit: Even with the picture change, my reasoning still stands.

Group C-12
Sophie, Howl’s Moving Castle
vs.
Monkey D. Luffy, One Piece
I like good person who has a bad person job (pirate, thief, hitman, lawyer) archetype, even if they have ridiculous names. Monkey D. Luffy wins.

Group C-13
Quatre Raberra Winne, Mobile Suit Gundam Wing
vs.
Duck/Princess Tutu, Princess Tutu
Duck.

Group C-14
Tatsumi Saiga, Speed Grapher
vs.
Jane Buxton, Secret of Cerulean Sand
I'll vote for Saiga due to this formula:
[(||Personal Sacrifice||)/(Number of people helped)]/(Fame + Fortune + Recognition garnered) = Big.

Group C-15
Age, Heroic Age
vs.
D, Vampire Hunter D
D

Group C-16
Leo, Jungle Emperor Leo/Kimba the White Lion
vs.
Alice L. Malvin, Pumpkin Scissors
Alice. She seems plucky.

Hurrah, I knew 3 characters in this bracket. Also, I watched the first episode of Glass FLeet on Funi's website. Both Michele and the dude who shows up at the very end of the first episode seem very heroic. Did we overlook somebody who might deserve to be here?
