It's a shame that MangaUP will be available only in the US instead worldwide.

I thought Manga UP! was already available worldwide (though apparently English-only) since it launched outside of Japan last year, though I can't quite tell for sure. Are you thinking of the Kodansha service that is launching soon?

I'm literally in Nigeria, right now and I've read chapters on MangaUP! with no difficulties. You're confusing it with "K Manga" by Kodansha, which plans to release it US-only for now.

do mangaUP releases get physical tankobons or are they digital exclusive?

It seems to depend on what Square Enix wants to do. For example, My Clueless First Friend was originally exclusive to Manga UP!, but now it is getting print and digital volume releases.

It appears that the model for each series can be one of the following:
- If the series is already complete, then they have several initial chapters unlocked and each additional chapter (or partial chapter) unlocks weekly.
- If the series is being published in volumes, then they will publish everything that has been published, minus the latest volume, then release the chapters for the latest volume weekly. When catch up, nothing happens until the next volume is released.
- Otherwise, chapters seem to come out as they are published in Japan (maybe a few chapters behind). But if volumes start to release for a series, it appears that the series will be put on pause until the volumes catch up. Which is annoying for something like My Clueless First Friend, which had ~140 chapters out before the volume releases began (at least they are 2-in-1 omnibuses containing just under 30 chapters though).

Some of the series do also get physical releases, but I believe they have different translations (Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses for a recent example out in print that I looked at) so it's not a direct printing of the version on the app.
