Docomo's video streaming service dTV announced on Friday that it will begin streaming a new three-episode live-action web series based on Kiminori Wakasugi's All Esper Dayo! manga on August 19. The new series is titled Minna! Esper Dayo! ~Yokubō Darake no Love Wars~ (All Esper Dayo! ~The Lust-filled Love Wars~). The service also began streaming a trailer for the web series on Friday.
The show will feature an original story, and will star Riria Kojima (seen left) as the original character Asuka. Returning cast and characters from the previous live-action drama and film adaptations include Shōta Sometani as Yoshirō "Yocchan" Kamogawa, Erina Mano as Sae Asami, Sports Makita as Terumitsu Nagano, and Motoki Fukami as Yōsuke Enomoto.
The first live-action drama adaptation of the manga premiered in April 2013 as a series of 12-minute episodes. The live-action spinoff television special Minna! Esper Dayo! Bangaihen ~Esper, Miyako e Iku~ (All Esper Dayo! Extra Edition ~The Esper Goes to the Capital~) aired in Japan on April 3.
The psychic comedy follows an ordinary (virgin) high school boy named Yoshirō "Yocchan" Kamogawa (Sometani). His life changes overnight when he wakes up with the ability to read other people's minds. Yoshirō is not the only one to gain powers in his town. Terumitsu Nagano (Sports Mikata), an (apparently virgin) worker at a café near Yoshirō's school, gains telekinesis — but he uses it for Sex Toys. Yōsuke Enomoto (played by Motoki Fukami), a (probably virgin) senior and former basketball player at Yoshirō's high school, gains teleportation — but only while naked.
Wakasugi launched the manga in Weekly Young Magazine in 2009, shortly before he ended the popular comedy Detroit Metal City the following year. Kodansha published the seventh compiled volume of the manga on Thursday, and will publish the eighth and final volume in September. Wakasugi will launch a new series in October.
