Wow, for once I've read a series before it got reviewed here. Laughing I'm a little surprised to hear that Cuvie comes from a hentai background because there's nothing to suggest that in this work; they have an impressively solid grasp on anatomy that doesn't always seem to be a hallmark in hentai. I'm pretty sure my copies list multiple dancers and/or dance consultants as part of the staff as well, which might be a big reason for why all the dancing looks correct, even to someone like me who really only saw the Nutcracker annually.

It definitely lacks the melodrama of Swan, but to my mind, it more than makes up for it in its technical approach to ballet--this is basically what I wanted Bakuman to be to mangaka before it went off in a different direction. And I do think that, despite also feeling like timeskips are a little vague, the artist(s) do their damnedest to try and depict the physical differences of characters realistically aging up in a way we hardly ever see in manga, which is a neat touch. I assume native Japanese readers would probably pick up on the changes in uniforms and school accessories more easily than I did, so maybe the ages are less vague from a cultural perspective.

On the flipside, I read the byline and thought, "Now where do I know the name Cuvie--oooohhhh..." Laughing I had no idea they did more, er, legitimate manga now.

She has five or six non-hentai titles. This is only, as far as I know, the second to get an English translation, though. Dorothea's out of print, but it's also really good - it's set in the middle ages, so it's completely different from this one.

I actually found Cuvie first from Dorothea and then was surprised when I looked her up to find more books and discovered they were all porn! Laughing

A great series, but bear in mind that MediaDo haven't released any more volumes in over a year, despite releasing volumes 1-10 at a monthly rate. It's up to 15 volumes in Japan. I'm hoping it hasn't been dropped by them.
