I'm pretty pleased by this. I have been wanting to see some of this series. I don't think that just the first episode, which I understand to not be quite representative of the series, will be enough to move me to buy it, but a taste of it will be welcome.

English? bah, wake me up when they offer spanish dubs (which are pretty good), so far all english dubs I have heard have prompted me to push the "stop" button at once :-p

Will check this out. Glad its being wide spread like this. If there was a Spanish dub and more, it would be nice to another another event again. Can't go wrong with more exposure.

Same here. I'd previously seen no real reason as I already have a membership with Crunchyroll and The Anime Network, which seemed to offer the exact same titles. Thanks for providing the links and the information regarding the Timeshift options, karenai_hana! That really helps! EDIT: Can anyone be so kind as to help me? I'm afraid the time-zone settings are making my brain bleed out my ears. I've looked up the generalizations of UTC but it's still not making much sense to me. Is the default answer, "Los Angeles UTC-8:00" applicable for everywhere in the US? I live in the Midwest myself so I can't help thinking this is wrong, but none of the other time zones seem right. |

We have to actually watch the show LIVE, or beg for a special exception to time shift the show well in advance of the airing?! This is a joke, right?! This is a tremendous leap backwards; it flies in the face of the technology of the times as internet streaming gives us random access to video. Bending to the broadcaster's schedule is so antiquated; even mainstream cable and satellite has evolved past this. Are we really okay with this?
The kicker, what really sucks about this, is that Aniplex appears to be creating an online-exclusive extra feature. An extra feature that can only be viewed once! I bought the DVDs at their ridiculous pricing, and with that absurd pricing they should feature every special feature in existence. It doesn't matter that the online extra will probably blow as hard as the normal Japanese voice actor extras, it is the principle of the matter. If the extra defies the fates and is actually good then Aniplex will have some explaining to do. I'm not sure that Aniplex of America realizes that it is in America, not with this marketing scheme. If I were Funimation, I'd be most perturbed that my former ally had just screwed me.

Dude, at least they are making an attempt. Why are you buying the product when you are totally against what they are doing? You are just giving them incentive to keep up a strategy you don't agree with. I think this is fantastic news. We get to check out the dub before we buy it. |

Please, give me a good reason why Aniplex can't leave this video up to be seen by any and everyone at a later time. As it stands now they're trying to turn the internet into a poor imitation of television from last century, before we had even the VCR.
To answer your question, while I'm not a fan of aniplex's foolish strategy, I'm still an anime fan, and fandom can be irrational. I know that whether or not I buy from them their foray into American distribution will fail. Buying a DVD from them gets me a souvenir. I don't expect much from them, and with each bone headed decision of theirs which comes to light, like this backwards streaming strategy,my expectations fall further. Still though, as an anime fan I feel obligated to give them a chance. Fandom and ambivalence can be real bitches. |

Back to the good 'ol days I had to set my VCR to record! ...Jokes aside, it is what it is. I'm only guessing, but I'll bet that part of the decision of doing this was on the side of the Japanese involvement. In Japan, streaming anime free, online, and by demand is still unacceptable. If things are streamed online, they are streamed live or available by pay-per-episode download. With the new-ish system for NicoDouga overseas, Madoka is likely a promotion for the service. In other words, NicoDouga is probably the one that asked for Madoka. After arrangements were set, Aniplex likely accepted and gave them the rights to stream it. If it were a system that allowed for free, on-demand download, Japan (and likely a few other countries) could not be involved in the deal. Hence why I believe they were involed in the initial decision. Like it or not, this is how it works.
