While this seems like it might be interesting... I think they author is missing the point. The message that's in Haruhi isn't that everyone is special in that they are some extremely unique person... it's that there is no such thing as an "ordinary" person. Get to know anyone and you will see how peculiar they can really be.

Am I missing something the premise sounds mirror identical to Haruhi, its not a commentary its flat out copy.

Kyon wants to be normal, and just is interested in a nice slow pace. Haruhi is a weird girl who think weird stuff has to exist. Just because you change the names of the characters I don't see the point of this work. Even if you want to go the realistic route its basically Chunbiyo or Hyouka.

The haruhiist in me demands that I bash this immediately . But it is a bold move and deserves credit for it. I don't think he's going about it the right way,but hey, who am I to judge. Seriously though, where is that GODDAMN NEW HARUHI NOVEL!?!?!

If you've seen Disappearance then you know this isn't true. He had the chance to have a 'nice slow pace' environment without any of the crazy SOS antics. spoiler[He didn't take it].

At first glance this sounded kind of interesting, but the more I read about it, the more it feels like a derivative work than a satire (as I initially thought). I'll probably pick it up at some point, either way.

After seeing the title I was highly intrigued... but now after reading a longer description it honestly seems like its going to end up with an identical message...
It still has potential and sounds interesting though.

I hate these types of stories. They remind me of some book a read in third grade about a kid who liked Spider-Man so much he became Spider-Man.

The headline made this sound like The Deconstruction of Haruhi, but it's just another spin on the genre that Haruhi created.

Also it deserves an eye roll for the "breaking into the animation industry" subplot. This just reeks of author wish fulfilment on paper.

Hey, they'll approve anything that keeps the franchise name in the news since they haven't done anything in a while.

2007 called, it wants its self insert fic back.

Also this isn't really saying anything. Granted there are no Haruhi's, but what about the normal people? Or is the main character just a nihilist?

Lol, this sounds hilarious. I haven't read the Haruhi novel before but this concept & premise mentioned in the article has my interest now. I'm curious to see how this will go and maybe they'll have a cross-over in the future.

Well that's only half the point of Kyons actions in Disappearance, I would say that it's not so much that he wants the crazyness in his life (though to an extent he does) but more that he wants those people in his life. That doesn't mean he like it when things spiral out of control, like they do in the movie.

But after reading the synopsis this doesn't look interesting. For one focusing on 'ordinary' people is in itself not ordinary, the MC is just as abnormal as the type of people he doesn't want to be associated with. And as people have said, the writer seems to have missed the point of Haruhi to start with, or he's writing a character that has missed the point of it.

Wooooow.

Y'know, I typically hate/ignore these sorts of stories where it's so blatantly goes after other series like this, but since Tanigawa himself thumbed it up it does have me curious.
