The February issue of Kadokawa Shoten's Monthly Newtype magazine is revealing the main cast for Sunrise's Valvrave the Liberator (Kakumeiki Valvrave) television anime series on Thursday. Ryota Ohsaka leads the cast as second-year student Haruto Tokishima (character on the left in image) at Jiōru's Sakimori Academy. Ryohei Kimura will play Dorushia Military Pact Federation special agent L-elf (pictured far right), while Asami Seto and Haruka Tomatsu will play Shōko Sashinami and Saki Rukino, respectively.
The story is set in an era when 70% of the human race lives in space due to the development of space cities. Between two major powers — the Dorushia Military Pact Federation and the Atlantic Ring United States (ARUS) — there is a small neutral nation called Jiōru that has prospered economically. The protagonist Haruto, a high school student who lives in Jiōru, encounters the mysterious "forbidden" humanoid weapon Valvrave when the Dorushia army invades.
Kou Matsuo (Kurenai, Natsuyuki Rendezvous, Rozen Maiden) is directing the series at Sunrise. Ichiro Okouchi (Code Geass, Negima!, Guilty Crown) is handling the series composition. Manga creator Katsura Hoshino (D. Gray-Man) is handling the original character designs for the series, and Tatsuya Suzuki (Mobile Suit Gundam Battlefield Record: Avant-Title) is adapting Hoshino's designs for animation. Makoto Ishiwata (Robotics;Notes, Blassreiter), Naohiro Washio (Bodacious Space Pirates, Mobile Suit Gundam 00, Fafner), and Kunio Okawara (Mobile Suit Gundam franchise, Armored Trooper Votoms, Yatterman) are handling mechanical design.
The anime will premiere in April on MBS's "Animeism" late-night programming block.
