That is really sad, 53 is no age. I watched Macross 7 for the first time a few months ago, and even got a t-shirt with Mylene on it. She gave nuance to what could have easily been a very generic archetype.

Oh no this is awful news as she's voiced some of my favorite anime characters. I loved Tomo Sakurai as Meimi in Saint Tail which is one of my favorite magical girl classics and also Shayla-Shayla in El Hazard but especially Mylene in Macross 7, which is one of my favorite Macross shows and Mylene is best girl in the series. RIP to an icon and my heart goes out to her family and loved ones.

Very sad news. I know her mainly as Mylene, which she does a terrific job, both acting and singing. RIP.

Awwww, that's so sad! I only really heard her as Meimi in Saint Tail, but I really enjoyed her in that! 53 is way too young to die. May she rest in peace. Cancer sucks, y'all.

Most of the singing for Mylene in Macross 7 was done by Chie Kajiura. Still, it was sad to hear about Sakurai’s passing. |

This is so sad to hear, and cancer is the worse thing ever, and the fact this cancer she had spread to multiple organs in her body, it sounds like she had a metastatic cancer. That is the worse form of cancer I've ever seen, and this really breaks my heart. I send my heart out to her families and to any people that have dealt with metastatic cancer whether they're survivors (or know who someone survived it), or lost a loved one to this cancer.

That’s so sad. I probably knew her best as Cynthia from Pokemon, I’m glad she was able to voice her one more time in the final season. RIP
