Streamline Pictures

Foundation date: 1988
About:
Founded by former Harmony Gold employee Carl Macek, and cartoon historian Jerry Beck, Streamline Pictures was the first company in North America focussed exclusively on releasing anime and the first to release anime titles in their entirety. Their first two releases were AKIRA Production Report (1989) and Katsuhiro Otomo's 1988 masterpiece AKIRA (1990).
In the mid-1990s, as anime continued to grow a larger fan following in North America, Streamline inked a distribution deal with Orion Pictures to release their titles to more stores across the U.S. at lower prices.
Streamline Pictures went out of business in 1999. Majority of their anime catalog went to other distributors such as ADV Films, Geneon Entertainment and Urban Vision. Some titles wound up with Image Entertainment, which initially distributed them on laserdisc during Streamline's heyday.
