Live-Action Gazing at the Star Next Door Film Opens at #9, Odekake Kozame Anime Film Opens at #10

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle - Akaza Sairai, the first film in the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle trilogy, ranked at #1 in its sixth weekend. The film sold 764,000 tickets and earned 1,154,462,300 yen (about US$7.84 million) from Friday to Sunday. The film has sold 19,825,555 tickets for 28,087,694,600 yen (about US$190.8 million) in its 38 days at the box office.

With the latest box office numbers, the film has now surpassed Titanic to become the #3 highest-earning film of all time in Japan. By contrast, Demon Slayer – Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train topped Titanic in the all-time box office rankings in 45 days.

Haruo Sotozaki is directing the anime at ufotable, and ufotable is also credited for the screenplay. Aimer is performing the song "Taiyō ga Noboranai Sekai" ("A World Where the Sun Never Rises"), and LiSA is performing the song "Zankoku no Yoru ni Kagayake" ("Shine in the Cruel Night").

Eiga Crayon Shin-chan Chō Karei! Shakunetsu no Kasukabe Dancers (Crayon Shin-chan the Movie: Super Magnificent! Scorching Kasukabe Dancers), the latest anime film in the Crayon Shin-chan series, stayed at #5 in its third weekend. The film earned 185,796,300 yen (about US$1.26 million) from Friday to Sunday, and has earned a cumulative total of 1,722,724,500 yen (about US$11.71 million).

The film opened in Japan on August 8. The film sold 363,000 tickets and earned 450,283,700 yen (about US$3.07 million) in its first three days, and sold 516,000 tickets to earn 633 million yen (about US$4.33 million) in its first four days, which includes Monday (August 11 was the Mountain Day holiday in Japan).

The film is the 32nd 2D animated film in the Crayon Shin-chan series. The "series' first dance entertainment movie" takes place in India, the first time a film in the franchise takes place in the country. (The franchise is very popular in India.) Shinnosuke and the members of the Kasukabe Defense Force dance in the film.

Kento Kaku (live-action Clover, live-action Like a Dragon: Yakuza, Gold Kingdom and Water Kingdom) plays Wolf, a dancing, singing Indian billionaire.

Masakazu Hashimoto, who has previously directed many films in the franchise including the 30th film Eiga Crayon Shin-chan Mononoke Ninja Chinpūden, directed the new film. Kimiko Ueno (Eiga Crayon Shin-chan Mononoke Ninja Chinpūden, Eiga Crayon Shin-chan Shinkon Ryokō Hurricane) returned to the franchise to write the screenplay.

The live-action film of Ammitsu's Gazing at the Star Next Door (Tonari no Stella) manga opened at #9. The film earned 104,595,300 yen (about US$710,200) in its first three days.

The film opened in Japan on August 22.

Hana Matsumoto (Oshi no Ko, The End of the Pale Hour) directed the film, and Sawako Kawamitsu (Bokura ga Koroshita, Saiai no Kimi, Animals) wrote the script. TOHO is distributing the film. The film stars Riko Fukumoto as Chiaki and FANTASTICS member Yūsei Yagi as Subaru.

Kodansha USA publishes the series in English and describes the story:

Chiaki is a pretty normal teenage girl. Since they were kids, she's had a thing for her best friend Subaru—who's fast becoming the hottest young actor in Japan! With Subaru threatening to slip away, Chiaki has a decision to make: Will she finally take her shot, or give Subaru up to his adoring public?

Ammitsu launched the series in Kodansha's Bessatsu Friend magazine in January 2022.

Eiga Odekake Kozame Tokai no Otomodachi (Film Little Shark's Outings: The City's Friend), the new anime film of Penguin Box's Odekake Kozame (Little Shark's Outings) manga, opened at #10.

The film opened in Japan on August 22.

Kana Hanazawa returns as the titular young shark, Kozame-chan. Lozareena performed the theme song "Where you come from" for the film.

Chihiro Kumano (The Mononoke Lecture Logs of Chuzenji-sensei) directed the film at ENGI. Hiroaki Nagashima (Odekake Kozame anime's series script) wrote the film's script, Ayumi Takeuchi (My Happy Marriage key animation) designed the characters, Kisuke Koizumi (My Happy Marriage) was the sound director, dugout was in charge of sound production, and Yoshiaki Fujisawa (Love Live! Superstar!!) composed the music. Kadokawa is producing the film, and Kadokawa Animation is distributing.

The anime film centers on the titular character Kozame-chan's trip to the city, when she sees a glittering poster of the city in front of the Yaocho's train station. Dazed by a shark-shaped cloud, Kozame-chan boards the train and heads to the bright, noisy, crowded city, and starts a big adventure.

King of Prism -Your Endless Call- Miinna Kirameki! Prism☆Tours film, the latest work in the King of Prism anime franchise, is still off the top 10 in its ninth weekend, but still earned 79,308,600 yen (about US$539,100) from Friday to Sunday, and has earned a cumulative total of 786,166,500 yen (about US$5.34 million).

The compilation film based on the television anime of Visual Arts/Key's Summer Pockets visual novel dropped from #1 to #2 in its second weekend in the mini-theater rankings.
