Okay, I have an idea that I want to run by the rest of you ANN folk.

A lot of anime is now available via legal streaming online. The trouble though is that it's all over the place. I thought it might be a good idea to make a list of all the sites that have legal streaming anime, what series they have, what parts of the world it's available in, sub or dub, any other relevant info. I think it could really help make things easier to find.

So this already been discussed here and Zalis is willing to link it in one of the sticky threads. So we've begun putting it together. Any help is appreciated. If you're willing, go ahead and put together and post the info on anything not yet added and I'll compile it all together and edit it into my original post. You can see the format we're using so far. Try to stick to it as close as possible as to save me reformatting it. There's not much point in doing every single episode with it's own link but it would be preferable to link to at least a series specific page. This is just the ideal though. Any help whatsoever would be appreciated. Also, even if you're not willing to actually help put together the list I would still appreciate any suggestions of places that should be included.

EDIT: Funi stuff added to the list. I also did the Joost Stuff.

Sounds like a good idea to me as well.

For reference's sake, the AnimeOnDVD forum has exactly that sort of thread. The only errors in its list that pop out at me are that it doesn't show that ANN is now streaming Joost stuff, it isn't up to date on what adult swim is streaming, and that it lists Funimation's streams as being accessible worldwide (which I doubt).

I think such a thread is a good idea, and I would like to see it take the place of the "Do NOT ask for Downloads! [Or Streaming Video Links]" thread.

There are three reasons why I feel this way:

---There probably isn't room for another stickied thread, as in we don't want them getting cluttered up.

---The two topics are interrelated anyway, so why not start a new thread which covers both of them. Kill two birds with one stone, so to speak. Starting a new thread would be more clear and succinct than trying to alter the existing thread to accommodate the new information.

---Even though we have the aforementioned thread, we still sometimes get people who start a new thread to ask for sites where they can download Anime. A thread which is titled "List of Legally Downloadable/Streamed Anime and Where to Find Them" might be just the ticket to catching their attention.

To reiterate, I think it would be a valuable resource.

Better idea: Make it an ongoing column, a replacement for the now-defunct "The Click".

@Zallis:

Umm, no. Maybe you should read the first post again mod? (Just kidding Smile ).

That doesn't help me discover that hulu is playing Mushi-Shi, Crunchyroll has Last Exile, Anime Network is streaming Kino's Journey, etc., which is what ikillchicken is describing in his post.

@BellosTheMighty;

I like this idea. It might not be good for more than a half dozen columns or so, but it would be fun while it lasted, and could help spotlight these projects and get them some more attention - maybe making them more successful and leading to an increase in legal streaming, giving the fansubs some more competition.

Yup, sometimes if you go to the individual show's site you can find some episodes there, if not here's their streaming area:

http://www.funimation.com/video/
And I like the idea of putting all of these links in one place, it would be so much more convenient when trying to find anime.

Uhh, FUNimation also has their own channel on
YouTube with complete Anime episodes instead of those
3 part videos everyone is usually used to.

They just released Suzuka ep. 1 today, which i'll check out
later tonight.

I think what they're getting at is that they want to list more than what's just available on ANN. Basically everything so that nobody will keep asking where to download stuff in places where it is illegal, so to speak.

Yes. I will always watch a legal streaming anime over fansubs given the chance. But, to put it mildly, I am an idiot. I've known that ANN has streaming anime, yet i have never been to the page Zalis116 linked too (i must be blind). lol i always thought that they only things ann had was what is in the featured video section on the front page. yeah, like i said, im an idiot. so clicking the link i was shocked. There is so much there, its amazing!

and i didn't realize that some R1 publishers stream episodes on their websites. i know its not the whole series, but a few good eps is all it takes to get me into a series (and, in turn, money in their accounts from the dvds i buy). Also, i thought that all the anime on you tube were from fansubs. Now again i have been proven (thankfully) wrong. so a list of all these sites would be awesome for people like me.

Exactly. That's great for ANN's stuff but it's far from comprehensive.

Well, the list on ANN does have via YouTube, Hulu, Joost, etc. listed on there, which is why I presumed it had more than what ANN itself is streaming.

i just noticed that a bit ago. and thanks again for posting that link. about to start watching code geass for the first time. legal streaming anime for the win. i don't know much about the technical aspects, but can ann host videos via hulu?
