Ai Yori Aoshi (TV) Excellent
Ai Yori Aoshi ~Enishi~ (TV) Very good
Air (TV) Very good About the only complaint I really have is that Kanna did not get as much time in the main series, but this is mostly rectified with the special extra episodes... overall a nice series as expected from Key+KyoAni.
Android Kikaider - The Animation (TV) So-so The Pinnochio story was a nice sidetrack for AS, but it was nothing to write home about either. Also, the scenes they show at the end of each episode spoil the ending quite thouroughly. P.S. "Gemini" cricket? ~_^
(The) Animatrix (OAV) So-so Not particularly interesting. I merely watched as a supplement to the Matrix series.
Azumanga Daioh (TV) Excellent This is another wonderful series. 26 episodes is never enough with series like these.
Azumanga Daioh - The Very Short Movie Decent If you've watched the series you simply will not need to watch this.
(The) Big O (TV) Very good Master Roger, R. Dorothy and everyone else are having a time in this place with no memories. Ah, this show is truly nice and it is a great twist on the Batman genre. When the Big O is smashing down the competition, the whole town quakes. The second season doesn't disappoint either...
Bludgeoning Angel Dokuro-chan (TV) Good
Blue Gender (TV) Very good Wow, big giant alien bugs... that doesn't seem too routine. Then the Rip-van Winkle effect, gotta love it. Gee, this has of lots of character death really early on, but it isn't really that bad of a show (from what I've seen). Shoot the big alien-bugthingy in the er... airhole looking core-type thingy. Otherwise your cliche "Mother Nature is pissed off" theme...
Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan Second (OAV) Good
Chobits (TV) Excellent Barring the ecchi undertones, this series is a rather nice jaunt into what would happen in a world with humanoid robots that were really cute. Another is the interesting storyline (I'll *ignore* the ecchi-tones) and the ending is nice and happy. A kind of anti-Evangelion, and a nice relief that I watched it after that. P.S. Ka-wa-ii
Clannad (TV) Excellent This series combines sheer comedy and adorable characters in a very nice way. The RPG elements, gaming jokes and funny situations only add to the fun of the series. Considering the rest of the (After) story to come, this is the light hearted part of the story.
Clannad After Story (TV) There is an offset of a few more episodes of light heartedness at the start of this season. However, "all good things must come to an end..." and Tomoya's life gets pretty serious. As must be expected from the game, there is a necessary trip through "Bad End." The question is, will it end up with the "Good End" that we should also expect from knowing this game?
Cowboy Bebop (TV) Excellent This is one of the best dubs I've seen. The plot is a seamless bond between space and the wild west and the crew is an eclectic mix of... well... Spike, Jet, Faye, Ed and Ein. The stories are quite interesting and not some pre-concocted formula and the music is the classic Yoko Kanno's masterpieces. An excellent starting anime for any new otaku and a classic for the old-school (which I am not, BTW) otaku.
Damekko Dōbutsu (TV)
Death Note (TV) Very good
Elfen Lied (TV)
FLCL (OAV) Excellent At first this show does to the viewer just what Haruko did to Naota when they first met... smacks you right in the face with a Vespa and then a Guitar. Once you see past the shock and come around it starts making sense about episode 3 and you realize just why people really like this show. Cool music and lots of fun, also lots of wierd... Unique blend on themes ranging from the cry for Zoloft that was Evangelion to the slapstick comedy (and fanservice) of Love Hina taken to a painful level with a dab of South Park and the ever important anime/manga gags... ^_^
Fruits Basket (TV 1/2001) Good
Ghost in the Shell (movie) Good
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex: Solid State Society (movie) Decent
.hack//SIGN (TV) Very good Starts out confusing, but that's how all roleplaying games seem at first. Once you get your bearings, the world seems to be a very decent place. The show has elements of internal conflict, betrayal, mistrust and the ever important friendship. The graphics are also pretty nice and the music is very apropos and mood-setting.
Hand Maid May (TV) Very good This sieries is conceptually like Chobits with time travel and a little bit of harem.
Haruka Nogizaka's Secret (TV) Excellent
Higurashi no Naku Koroni Gaiden Nekogoroshi-hen (OAV)
His and Her Circumstances (TV) Excellent On the whole, absolutely wonderful (and unusually true to the manga from what I've heard, so bonus). I am left with one complaint, it stops way, and I mean way, too soon. Now I have to beg for the manga too. It is probably too late for a second season now, but it would be very appreciated if there was one.
Inuyasha (TV) Very good (dub & sub) Sure the plot starts to get routine about halfway through the series, but it is not really too bad. It receives a very good rating because Rumiko Takahashi has done a marvelous job of coming up with a rather unique plotline and some rather believable characters. Also: +2 for cuteness!
InuYasha the Movie 2: The Castle Beyond the Looking Glass Good
InuYasha the Movie: Affections Touching Across Time Good Ah, a super-villain (and it isn't Naraku). The big tree was a nice touch and the soul-sucking was... scary. OK, it was a pretty good show and a nice detour from the machinations of the evil Baboon-headed demon and his kids.
K-ON! (TV)
Kakurenbo - Hide & Seek (movie) So-so
Kanon (TV 1/2002) Very good This series is not as good as the 2006 version due to the lack of certain important character development, but it is generally comparable nevertheless...
Kanon (TV 2/2006) Excellent What the 2002 version lacked was surpassed and improved upon here. What's more, the interaction between Ayu and Yuuichi is a lot funnier.
Kanon Kazahana (special) Excellent What the 2002 series lacks is partially made up for with this bonus, but it doesn't replace the fact that Mai's arc was basically given the short end of the stick...
Kikaider-01: The Animation (OAV) So-so I started this one thinking "Where's Mitsuko?" have we forgotten about Mitsuko? As it goes along, we meet Reiko and Akira, brother 1 (Ichiro), 4 evil Hakaider clones, Bijinder (obvious fanservice), brother 0 (Rei) and big DOOMSDAY robot. So Kikaider isn't immortal after all. Kind of Evangelionesque with the "Everyone dies" bit. P.S. Does anyone know where Mitsuko is? (I thought I saw Hattori, though)
Kiki's Delivery Service (movie) Good A nice little story about striking it out on your own. Good G rated story for everyone.
Love Hina (TV) Very good Boy meets whole household full of girls who are not too pleased about him being there. It has a rather good plotline and even though you never really find out who he made the promise to, it's still a pretty nice show. Kudos Ken.
Love Hina Again (OAV) Decent This one expands on the Love Hina story after Mr. Urashima gets into Tokyo Daigaku. It seems to be wrought with a lot of fanservice at first, but it goes back down toward the end. The story was quick, but basically tells us what we have already figured out a long time ago.
Love Hina Spring Special - I Wish Your Dream Decent This is a pretty nice little jaunt away from Hinata Sou, but not much to write home about. P.S. Nice boat, Mr. Akamatsu.
Love Hina X'mas Special - Silent Eve Decent Aww, how sweet the season cheer! Not too bad and it was nice that everyone was happy on Christmas Eve.
Lucky Star (TV) Excellent Lucky Star is sort of like the story of narcissus. It provides a reflection of otaku in such a way that it draws the otaku in and becomes a nice commentary.
Lucky Star OVA Very good Considering how well this OVA was done, it may as well qualify as a bonus episode of the series itself...
Macross Plus (OAV) Decent
Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha (TV) Very good Considering that I came into this one after Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, it took me a while to get over the association of Nanoha with Rika. Considering this series spawned 2 more seasons, it really speaks for itself as to how good it is.
Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha A's (TV) Very good Finishing where the last season left off, this series was a nice continuation and had a good conclusion.
Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS (TV) Very good This series had a lot to live up to and it started off very slowly. It took a while to get into the groove but once it passes the half-way point of the series it proved why the Nanoha series is so good.
Mahoraba ~Heartful days~ (TV) Very good Yay, another one of my favorites. Unfortunately it looks like its going to be a 26-er so I'm gonna need to beg for the manga I gather. Hopefully they will reconsider a second season if this series isn't going to complete the story. Somehow, fortunately, the ending was not significantly different from the manga although a lot more is resolved in the manga.
Maison Ikkoku (TV) Excellent
Maison Ikkoku: Kanketsuhen (movie) Very good
Maison Ikkoku: Shipwrecked on Ikkoku Island (OAV) Good
(The) Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (TV) Very good The "out of order" chronology is kind of weird, but the series is a very interesting adventure. (Gee, can't I think of anything besides what the theme song suggested?) Unfortunately, for some reason the rest of this story is delayed and we are left to burn with anticipation...
(The) Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (TV 2009 renewal)
(The) Melancholy of Haruhi-chan Suzumiya (ONA)
Midori Days (TV) Very good The nice thing is that this series actually ends something like the manga eventually ended. Aside from the rush to the ending, the series carries the full charm of the original story.
Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket (OAV) So-so Hum, I suppose it can pass as a nice "kid has dreams... dreams get smashed... friend dies" story. I wouldn't write home, but it isn't bad.
Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory (OAV) Good This little excursion was a nice mini-war. It was all right and the music was pretty nice (even if there were only 2 songs).
Mobile Suit Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz Special Edition (movie) Decent Maybe I should watch the Gundam Wing series because I really was lost. Oh well, that is what I get for watching a compilation movie before the actual series. ^_^;;
Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack (movie) Good Aside from the fact that almost everyone except Amuro dies, I must say it is a rather nice show. Oh, those New Types and their dandy powers, that's what it came down to in the end. Not very friendly to those who should've learned lessons in this show, but it was a nice "going out in a ball of flame" type ending for Neo-Zeon.
MoonPhase (TV) Very good An interesting cross over between nekomimi and vampire anime.
Mujin Wakusei Survive (TV) Excellent Two seasons of living off the land on a (mostly) uninhabited planet. All and all enjoyable.
Neon Genesis Evangelion (TV) Decent Oh, Hideaki Anno... were you ever in need of Zoloft? It isn't a bad show, but it was depressing... P.S. You may want to read the Bible fully next time, because that wasn't anything like what's in it. ^^;;
Neon Genesis Evangelion: The End of Evangelion (movie) Decent Nice save. That series ending was incomplete and left much to be wanted. Again, this wasn't anything like the Bible... it would help if you read the whole book first. ^^;;
Nyoron! Churuya-san (ONA)
Outlaw Star (TV) Decent (dub), Very good (sub) Oh how nice. Actually, this was one of my initiation anime, and it is really good. The dubbed song doesn't do Arai Akino's song justice, but I forgive them. I finally decided to rewatch the subtitled version and finish out this series. (Now to see if I can find that spinoff series)
Pilot Candidate (TV) Good The series was simultaneously odd and interesting. I would've liked to have seen the ending, but no one showed that OVA Stateside... (At least where I could see it).
Puella Magi Madoka Magica (TV)
Ranma ½ (TV) Very good From what I have seen (S2-e40) this series looks pretty good. P-chan (umm... Ryouga) is a barrel of laughs and Ranma's curse has a way of being really good for comic relief. Good comedy and I plan to see more.
Read or Die (OAV)
Rozen Maiden (TV) Very good
Rozen Maiden: Ouvertüre (special) Very good
Rozen Maiden: Träumend (TV) Very good
Serial Experiments Lain (TV) Good This series was at first incomprehensible. As it went on, I understood more and more and it finally made sense. It is a truly interesting view of the side effects of a digital world, right Vannevar Bush? Kudos.
Shakugan no Shana (TV)
Shakugan no Shana Second (TV)
Strawberry Eggs (TV) Very good In one word: Progressive. It starts with a rather unusual premise and probably rattles some cages, but it pulls it off in a very interesting manner.
Tenchi in Tokyo (TV) Not really good (dub), Good (sub) A bit less quality than the other Tenchi genre, but this one is pretty cute. Poor Sakuya.
Tenchi Muyo! (OAV 1/1992) Not really good (dub), Good (sub)
Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki (OAV 2/1994) Not really good (dub), Good (sub)
Tenchi Muyo! The Night Before The Carnival (OAV) Not really good (dub), Good (sub)
Tenchi the Movie - Tenchi Muyo in Love Good
Tenchi The Movie 2 - The Daughter of Darkness Good
Tenchi Universe (TV) Not really good (dub), Good (sub)
Tokko (TV) Very good
Toradora! (TV)
Trigun (TV) Very good Morality conflict, believable characters, lightning fast gunfights and a sweet western setting. This is a very good show and I recommend as required viewing for the anime initiate.
When They Cry - Higurashi (TV) Excellent Despite the initial surprise concerning the sheer amount of raw violence, the series turns out to be a pleasantly interesting one... and... (see Kai)
When They Cry - Kai (TV) Excellent To complete the comment started on Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, this series completes out the rest of the amazingly fine story. Now to wait for Rei.
When They Cry - Rei (OAV)
Zoids (TV) Good This Zoids has a lot more quality than its sequel, NC/ZERO. Sure, its not pure genius, but it does kind of have a nice story.
Zoids/ZERO (TV) Decent This Zoids, while not bad, didn't make me jump through hoops either. It was mostly just a prolonged "fight", but it did have a little plot development (emphasis "little").
