| Figure 17 (TV) | Masterpiece | I did not want this series to end! 80% slice-of-life drama, 20% Metroid, with a tiny dash each of EVA and Aliens... sounds crazy but it works really well. 45 minute long episodes give it a very theatrical feel. A real hidden gem, and tied with Utena as my all-time favorite. |

| Grave of the Fireflies (movie) | Masterpiece | Someday I will watch this again. But one only needs to see Grave of the Fireflies once. It's that powerful. |
| Gunslinger Girl (TV) | Excellent | Take Luc Besson's "Leon", add some background sci-fi elements, and that's close to what you get here. If you want non-stop action with cute little girls wielding serious firearms, this is not the show for you. There are some great action sequences, but the main focus is the lives of the girls. |
| Haibane Renmei (TV) | Masterpiece | Incredible, incredible, incredible. Ties SE Lain as my favorite of ABe's, and my 2nd favorite series overall (by the narrowest of margins). Rakka's innocent questioning of her world makes the show. |

| Neon Genesis Evangelion: Death & Rebirth (movie) | Very good | Highly compressed version of episodes 1-24 (not recommended for EVA newbies, you won't catch everything if you haven't already seen the series), and Act 1 of End of Evangelion. Overall not bad, but for EVA completists only. |
| Neon Genesis Evangelion: The End of Evangelion (movie) | Excellent | Not so much "alternate ending" as the another side of the same coin. The series ended with a study of Shinji's psyche as the Human Instrumentality Project began, the movie shows us what "really happened". And it still takes much effort to wrap your brain around it. |
| NieA_7 (TV) | Excellent | The second series ABe was a part of. Poor Mayuko, she tries so hard, I just want to give her a big hug. With a roommate like NieA, how does she sleep at night? |

| Outlaw Star (TV) | Very good | Space pirates, asian mysticism, a ninja, a catgirl, an android, all in the same series? On top of that, the closest description of a genre I can think of is Space Western. Somehow, they pull it off, and the result is one of the most fun series out there! |

| Rayearth (OAV) | Good | This is not connected in any way to the TV series. It's the dark, apocalyptic version of Rayearth... The good: well-executed action, excellent character design, set in "real-world" Tokyo. The not-so-good: light on development and a nebulous plot. |
| Revolutionary Girl Utena (TV) | Masterpiece | Sits next to Figure 17 as my all-time favorite series. A surrealistic fairy tale, yet so much more. Metaphors and symbolism are sprinkled generously throughout the whole series. That would make it an allegory, wouldn't it? ;) |

The entire film (especially the finale) is saturated with symbolism (it makes the Utena series, or even SE: Lain, seem like strict narrative in comparison!), the soundtrack is easily one of the best I have ever heard, and cannot be seperated from the visuals... I get goosebumps just *thinking* about this movie! And the last few times I've watched it, I've had to put it on twice a few days apart just to absorb it all! |

The five new voice actresses - all in their mid-teens playing their first roles - make the main characters' voices certainly age-appropriate. |
